Why choose Hygea for dementia care?

Hygea Homecare can provide essential support for people with dementia and their families through a variety of personalised services. They offer in-home care that focuses on daily assistance, such as help with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management while ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.

Trained caregivers can also support individuals with dementia by encouraging mental and physical activity to help slow cognitive decline. For families, Hygea Homecare offers respite care, giving them time to rest while ensuring their loved ones are well cared for.

They provide emotional support, guidance, and education about dementia, helping families understand the progression of the disease and how to better manage its challenges. This comprehensive care fosters both the well-being of the person with dementia and the emotional resilience of their family.

Professionally trained carers in Dementia

Our carers are highly trained to manage dementia with specialised knowledge and skills tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with the condition.

Their training covers key aspects such as recognising different stages of dementia, understanding memory loss, and managing behavioural changes like agitation, confusion, or aggression.

Carers are equipped with techniques to communicate effectively with individuals who may struggle to express themselves or follow conversations, and they are trained to provide structured routines that reduce anxiety and disorientation.

They also promote mental stimulation and mobility to enhance well-being while ensuring safety and comfort in daily activities. This specialised dementia care ensures that individuals receive compassionate, patient-centred support that adapts to the progression of the disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care can be confusing, and sometimes challenging to talk about. We’ve answered some common questions below.

Hygea Homecare caregivers undergo specialised training in dementia care, covering techniques to manage behavioural changes, effective communication strategies, understanding the stages of dementia, and providing compassionate support tailored to each individual’s needs.

Hygea Homecare takes steps to create a safe environment by reducing fall risks, ensuring proper supervision, using monitoring techniques for wandering, and implementing home safety checks. Caregivers are trained to recognize potential hazards and manage risk factors in the home.

Yes, caregivers are trained to handle challenging behaviours like agitation, confusion, and aggression using calming techniques, redirection, and reassurance to create a soothing environment that minimises stress and anxiety for the client.

Hygea Homecare offers personalised activities such as music therapy, light exercises, memory games, arts and crafts, and reminiscing sessions. These activities stimulate the mind, encourage social interaction, and promote emotional well-being.

Hygea Homecare actively communicates with family members, providing updates on the client’s well-being, sharing care plans, and offering guidance on how family members can support their loved ones. Family involvement is encouraged to ensure a consistent, supportive approach.

It is essential that we ensure that all provisions are in place before care starts, we strive to complete the assessment, formulate a care plan, and gather GP summaries as quickly as possible. Sometimes in urgent cases we can turn this around within 24-48 hours, but can take up to 5 days from the assessment.

Our carers are throughly trained both on digital platforms, and practical workshops throughout their career. We also provide level 2 and level 3 in Advanced Dementia courses, to broaden the knowledge of dementia care practices.

During the initial assessment our team also carry out a environmental assessment, this will look into whether any equipment or aids are recommended to carry out care safely. We will make referrals to the relevant organisations to help facilitate any required aids.

Paying for care is managed through a direct debit directly with the client/family. If you are receiving funding through other means such as social services in full or part, you will need to contact your social worker to arrange provisions of care under Hygea Homecare.

If you or a family member is living with an on-going health condition, it is worth applying for NHS Continuing Healthcare too. If you meet the criteria, this form of funding will cover every penny of your care costs. However, bear in mind that this funding is reserved for complex conditions which may fall out of the scope of what a self-employed carer can provide.
