Specially trained carers
All caregivers, care coordinators, and management are highly trained in medication handling by our internally qualified trainers. This ensures that we as a company reduce meds errors, by following best practices and follow all regulations in the handling and disposal of medicines.
Our workforce is often spot-checked, and we run a competency check on all staff throughout the year. Our internal auditors check digital records, and completion statuses to identify any issues at the earliest opportunity.
We liaise with GPs and other medical practitioners when medicines should be reviewed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Care can be confusing, and sometimes challenging to talk about. We’ve answered some common questions below.
What is medication administration in home care, and why is it important?
Medication administration in home care involves trained caregivers or nurses assisting patients with taking their prescribed medications at the correct times and dosages. This is crucial to ensure medication effectiveness, reduce risks of complications, and promote overall health and recovery.
What types of medication support does Hygea Homecare offer?
Hygea Homecare provides various levels of support, including medication reminders, assistance with administering oral or topical medications, monitoring for side effects, and, when needed, administering injections. The level of support depends on the patient’s needs and the caregiver’s qualifications.
Are Hygea Homecare caregivers qualified to administer medications?
Yes, Hygea Homecare employs licensed nurses and trained caregivers qualified to administer medications according to state regulations and best practices. Caregivers are thoroughly trained to ensure safe and effective medication administration.
How can Hygea Homecare help with medication management for patients with complex regimens?
For patients with multiple medications, Hygea Homecare can create a medication schedule, provide reminders, and track dosages to ensure patients take medications as prescribed. They also coordinate with healthcare providers to adjust regimens and reduce potential drug interactions.
What safety measures does Hygea Homecare take when administering medications?
Safety measures include verifying the “five rights” (right patient, right medication, right dose, right time, and right route), double-checking medication labels, proper storage of medications, and close monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions.
What should family members do if they notice a change in the patient’s health?
Family members should contact Hygea Homecare immediately if they notice any concerning symptoms or changes in the patient’s health. The care team can assess the situation, make necessary adjustments, and, if needed, consult with the patient’s GP.
What is an eMAR?
An eMAR chart stands for electronic Medication Administration Record and is a working document used to record the administration of medicines.
All clients will have their own individual eMAR chart, detailing all prescribed medications, whether prescribed by the GP or Specialist at the hospital, with all information recorded clearly.
What does an eMAR contain?
- The individual’s full name ( as it appears on the medication)
- Which medicines are prescribed for the individual
- When they must be given
- What the dose is
- Any special information, such as giving medicines with food
How quickly can care be arranged?
It is essential that we ensure that all provisions are in place before care starts, we strive to complete the assessment, formulate a care plan, and gather GP summaries as quickly as possible. Sometimes in urgent cases we can turn this around within 24-48 hours, but can take up to 5 days from the assessment.
