Care Training

Training for a career in care

Hygea offers expert training to help you progress through the ranks. Start with the Care Certificate, Practical Moving and handling and First Aid training.

Expertly delivered care training

Whether you are a Care Novice or a Care Veteran, having the knowledge and skills to do your job effectively is crucial. We all have a duty of care to maintain and improve these skills for the health and safety of our clients.

Hygea delivers training both in practical and digital methods. We utilise an online digital training platform to give you access to specific training for your role as a carer. Then our trainers deliver practical face to face training in our class based modules.

Moving and Handling Training

At Hygea, we focus on our practical training in all aspects, from showing employees new to care the fundamentals of equipment most likely to be used in the care setting, including bed safety, sit-to-stand hoists, walking frames, hoists and slings and much more.

We also provide training in manual handling techniques essential to safely using equipment and ensuring that the person being transferred is always kept safe.

We will also cover topics such as risk assessment, identifying hazards and appropriate control measures, the legislation surrounding the moving and handling of people, communication and record keeping.

First Aid Training

At Hygea, we understand the crucial role of First Aid Training for our caregivers operating in the field. Our dedicated internal instructors provide top-notch First Aid training, equipping our caregivers with the skills and knowledge to handle emergencies effectively.

Emergency First Aid in the Workplace Level 3 training is at our headquarters. The training course is tailored to our needs and covers topics such as the first aider’s role, an incident assessment, CPR, dealing with shock and wounds, and heart attacks and strokes.

The courses are delivered over one day, and the trainers are highly knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects.

Digital Training in Care

Hygea delivers our digital training through our training partner, Care Skills Academy. Care Skills Academy was chosen as a Skills for Care Centre of Excellence endorsed by Skills for Care, CPD accredited, a member of the Care Learning Coalition and fully compliant with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.

Our carers embark on a journey of skills and knowledge, heavily tied to practical and real-life scenarios, to continually enhance their professional development while working in the care sector.

Over 80 modules are delivered to our carers over the first year, including the chance to complete your care certificate.

The Care Certificate was introduced in April 2015. All those working as healthcare assistants and adult social care workers are expected to undertake this learning as part of their induction programme.

The Care Certificate was created as a result of the Cavendish Review, which was published in July 2013. This review was part of the response to the Francis Inquiry into the failings of care at the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Trust.

The Cavendish Review found that the training and development of healthcare assistants and adult social care workers was often not consistent or good enough. Cavendish proposed that a new ‘Certificate of Fundamental Care’ be created to improve this and that led to the ‘Care Certificate’. The Care Certificate covers the learning outcomes, competences and standards of behaviour that must be expected of support workers in the health and social care sectors. It aims to make sure that you are caring, compassionate and provide quality care in your work.
